The defining challenges of our time

Professor Joseph Stiglitz met with philanthropists and local changemakers during a visit to Melbourne supported by the Reichstein Foundation in November 2018. He was interviewed by Reichstein Foundation trustee Karen Mahlab AM at a special event at the Community of Giving in East Melbourne. Professor Stiglitz was in Australia to accept the 2018 Sydney Peace Prize. His citation sums up his remarkable contribution to how we think about poverty and inequality: he has lead “a global conversation about the crisis caused by economic inequality,” exposed “the violence inflicted by market fundamentalism,” and championed “just solutions to the defining challenge of our time: How can we break the cycle of power and greed to enable all peoples and the planet to flourish?”
